SITE REVIEW:
PATCHY'S SITE

This is another "jukebox" site like mine and was a sort of inspiration for it. The story is that of a 15 year old girl in 1959 Los Angeles who is called "Da Patchy". I don't know if the story is true but the nickname sounds too New York for me to believe, but that's just me.

This site consists of a number of categories in each of which are 5 or 6 "jukeboxes" that play songs mostly from the Satellite Era, either in onesies or in groups of about 10. It requires RealPlayer to use and is one of the reasons I tell you at the main site to get the premium RealPlayer.

Now, in genreal I like the site for its content. However, it seems that the fidelity on some of the songs isn't what it might be and I would think that someone who is 15 in '59 would not go beyond '63, I turned 14 in '59 and I do notice a demarcation at about mid '63 that gave the music a whole different sound and feel.

Unlike Just OLdies, which used MIDI instrumentals arranged and played by the site owner. Patchy'S uses actual recordings of the material converted to a Real Audio format.

The categories are pretty extensive so you will find a lot to like. However, the big downside for me is that "Da Patchy" does not respond, which is a half-letter downgrade. All in all, for what we want, it's a solid B with A- moments
